Hi, I’m Bri Monahan. I’m the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program Coordinator for the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services. November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, so it’s the perfect time to learn more about this disease that 10% of North Dakotans are living with.
Nearly one in three adults has prediabetes, which means that the blood sugar is higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. This is a critical warning sign, but most people aren’t aware of their risk, or realize that it’s reversible.
You can find out your risk for pre-diabetes in less than one minute by going online at doihaveprediabetes.org, and talking to your healthcare provider about risk factors.
