Hi, my name is Danni Pinnick. I’m an epidemiologist with the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.
Right now is the ideal time to get your flu shot. You’ll see local clinics, public health, and even pharmacies offering flu shots. Influenza’s a really serious disease and causes tens of thousands of deaths and hospitalizations every year. Young children and older adults are the most vulnerable. Last year’s flu shot won’t protect you against this year’s strains of influenza, since the influenza virus, and therefore the influenza vaccine, change every year.
If you have any other vaccines that you need to get, new bivalent COVID booster, you can get that done at the same time. You can get your annual flu shot done as a walk-in appointment at your pharmacy. Schedule an appointment with your primary care provider, and perhaps even your pediatrician is willing to give you and your entire family influenza shots.
