Hi, I’m Jenny Galbraith, adult vaccine manager for the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services. Fall is here, and with that came new COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for many North Dakotans. Everyone 12 years and older is now recommended to receive a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine at least two months after their previous dose. The bivalent version of the COVID-19 vaccines now offer protection against both the original strain of SARS-CoV-2, as well as the Omicron strain, which is a predominant variant around the world. Updated COVID-19 boosters are expected to both help restore protection that has waned since previous vaccination and provide broader protection against newer variants. With many people returning to indoor activities after summer, it is a good idea to protect oneself by receiving your bivalent booster dose. Both Pfizer and Moderna bivalent vaccines are widely available in North Dakota. If you have additional questions regarding a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine, please talk to your trusted healthcare provider.
